If you are not sure whether your job fits, describe it anyway. Part of the estimate is telling you whether it is a project at all or something an agreement should already cover.

Questions about estimates
Is the estimate really free?
Yes, including the site visit where one is needed. We would rather spend an hour scoping properly than send you a number we have to revise later.
How long does it take?
Simple work, same or next business day. Anything needing a site visit or vendor pricing, usually two to four business days. If it will take longer we tell you when to expect it rather than going quiet.
What do you need from us?
Roughly what you are trying to achieve, how many people and machines are involved, and any deadline you are working to. You do not need a specification. Working out what the job actually is forms part of the estimate.
Will the price change once work starts?
Not unless you ask for something different. Project quotes are fixed, with the exclusions written down alongside what is included. A change order only exists when you request a change, and it is quoted before the work happens rather than appearing on the invoice.
Do you estimate hourly work too?
We give you a realistic range and tell you what would push it to the top of that range. Hourly is $250 per hour with a two hour minimum per call and a $125 travel charge for onsite visits, so for anything sizeable a fixed price usually works out better for you.
What if we just want advice?
Then say so. Sometimes the honest answer is that the work is not worth doing, or that your existing provider should be handling it under an agreement you already pay for. We have talked people out of six figure projects.
